On the day when the Komainu Tribe customarily have their portraits painted, Toyokuni made a rare appearance in his samurai dress and sporting his katana, ready for his sitting. On his way to the portraitist, however, he heard the villagers' cries for help—and, knowing the ways of the blade, he drew his sword and risked breaking the Tribe's taboos. With the villanous bandits defeated, he tended to the villagers' wounds before continuing on his way. From that day forth, talk of his godly battle skills and benevolence would be handed down among the people for all eternity...
